The use of techniques considered NOT GOOD by Google for increasing the traffic to your site can get you banned. One of such techniques is automatically generated pages. Automated pages are created by scraper programs. It can be used to scrape search engines results for a keyword and copy the content to create directories. Thousands of keywords can be added to the program and it will automatically create one page for each separate keyword. This is counted as duplicate content and the site gets banned.

A link directory is another type of automatically generated page. A script needs to be added to your page and hundreds of link pages are added to your site. But often it is forgotten that the URL to all those hundreds of link pages remains the same past slash. This indicates Google of duplicate pages. Soon your site is not seen even in the index.

However if you still wish to use automated pages for your site you need to make sure that it gives you individual URL for each page. Also make sure you have unique content on each page.
