What to Avoid While Link Building

Importance of links is undisputed for search engine optimisation. We can find many people looking for links or adopting different techniques for having a higher number of links. Well there is no harm in doing so unless it is needed and done in the right way.  Some people do end up doing it in the wrong way due to lack of knowledge or purposely. SEO consultant suggests not to use same anchor text for all the incoming links. Instead use different keyword rich anchor text. The search engines are so advanced that they can now usually tell when the webmasters try to manipulate it. We generally tend to promote the home page the most. Hence sometimes may end up with tons of links on the home page. It will put you in trouble if the other pages do not have any links.
 
Growth should always be gradual. Rapid growth is the cause of suspicion. Building too many links in a small period of time sounds good but for search engines, it signals them of something wrong. If you have natural links for social sites then there is nothing to worry. Cross linking is the idea of linking all your relevant sites to each other. This will increase the individual traffic but not the search traffic.
 
The best and easiest way to get paid links or link exchanges is forum. One can post enquiry for links on the forum and wait for replies. This should be avoided as it becomes a written source proving your search for links. Links should be from relevant and good websites.  If you are caught linking to a bad site there are chances of you getting penalized or blacklisted.

A few of the other less important dont’s of link building might be missing here. However these are the most important things to remember for successful link building.
