Duplicate content is a big threat to a SEO company as it can affect the ranking of a site but in certain cases it becomes necessary to put up such content on the site especially when you want to provide the printable version of a particular page to the viewers. You might be thinking if there is a way to avoid the search engines from indexing a page and the answer is the robots.txt HTML code.

    use robotstxt avoid google

What is robots.txt File and How to Best Use it For Your Benefit? For those who are new to SEO when the robot.txt file command appears before a page it instructs the search engines to stay away from that page. This command is especially useful when there are same pages on the site or some sensitive data which you do not want to be public. Images, javascript and stylesheets can be excluded from indexing using this command this will also save on bandwidth.

It should be understood that robots.txt is a mere instruction for the search engines and it will be very foolish if you use it for sensitive data. If in case the search engines are not able to locate the robots file then there are all possibilities that the data is indexed by them. So it is better to use a combination of methods for protecting sensitive data.

It should be known that the search engines do not search the whole site to find the robots.txt file but the main directory located here www.mysite.com/robots.txt. The robots.txt should be located in the main directory for the search engines to find it and do not index the files you do not want to be indexed. If it is not so placed then you cannot blame the search engines for indexing all the pages.

The importance of sitemaps in search engine optimisation is many times underestimated. The word sitemap is self explanatory. It refers to a map of your website guiding the visitor or the search engines where to find the information they are looking for. They make your site more user and search engine friendly.

    Importance sitemap SEO

Often SEO Company focuses on having a site map for your website. Sitemap unlike robots.txt file shows search engines the way to the website pages more important for the search engines. The concept of sitemaps is not new but the use of sitemaps for improving website ranking is definitely new but not difficult.

Sitemaps for Google are quite different from the conventional sitemaps for human because Google uses XML format while the one for the human visitors is made using HTML coding. This clearly means that to use them for website promotion it is important to have two different types of them one for search engines and the other for human visitor.

Now you might be confused won’t two sitemaps lead to duplicity issue? Leave your worries behind because the answer is NO it will not lead to duplicate pages. Google clearly states in its introduction to sitemaps that two different sitemaps for Google and visitors will not be penalized.

Sitemaps have a greater purpose apart from being the navigational tool to your site. Whenever you add new content to your site it is the sitemap which can be used to let Google know about it. This does not mean that since you have a sitemap Google will come rushing to you for the new content but yes the process can be accelerated. One more advantage of sitemaps is it helps in content bifurcation and gives you chance to figure out if anything is missing or what more needs to be added to the content.

Page Rank is in short referred to as PR and is an important element in SEO. The average PR will definitely increase the site ranking. SEO Company follows different styles and patterns to achieve a good PR for a site. However we are many times baffled with the question if No Follow helps PR Molding.

    No Follow SEO

UK SEO Company defines No follow as a type of link condom which will allow you to protect your links which you wish should not be followed by search engine or others. This is specifically useful when you do not want to pass on the PR of your page or you do not want Google to crawl through the links actually put in by spammers.

Below is a general HTML No Follow tag:
    <a href="http://www.example.com/" rel="nofollow">discount drugs</a>

Different search engines have different attitude to the No Follow links as below:

    •    Google takes the tag in literal sense and will not follow it. However many SEOs opine that Google still follows these links but does not index them and include in the ranking of a page.
    •    Yahoo spiders crawl through the links but do not include them in page ranking.
    •    For Bing it is not certain whether it considers No Follow links for page ranking.
    •    Ask.com respects the no follow links and takes no action for a No Follow link.

The basic concept of No Follow attribute is very useful to maintain the ranking of a website. However it should be remembered that it is not the sole attribute that is going to rank your site higher. It is just a protection to your site and not the ultimate way. It is a very small part of the whole SEO process. Much more things go into SEO other than the NO Follow attribute.

404 Errors are commonly faced by internet users when a URL is wrongly typed or a broken link is followed. Many SEO company have found that people prefer to visit some other page when faced with a 404 error. This error tells that the browser tried to access the page but the page is not available for the time being.

    make 404 error user friendly

However many SEO services providers have come up with a solution to make these 404 error pages useful and attractive. A custom 404 error page can be created if you have your own domain. Such custom page will be displayed whenever a user tries to access a non-existent page.

A few simple things should be considered while designing your own custom page:
    •    Let the page have a feel of your website and brand it with your logo
    •    A link to the different important pages which can be useful to the visitors should be provided.
    •    Do not forget to provide atleast one link to your homepage
    •    A search box is very useful. Instead of navigating through the site the visitor can just type in the query and be diverted to the concerned page.

This custom designed 404 Error page should be than uploaded onto your web server. For this you can either contact your domain provider or visit their website for the process. If your web host uses Cpanel (widely used) then it will be lot easy for you. Website management and control tasks can be done using Cpanel.

You just have to log in and view the main menu, click the link to the 'Custom Error Pages' section. It will guide you through the step by step process to upload your error page. This will definitely help you retain customers.

Images are self explanatory and make your website very attractive. Designing an eye catching website without any image is a difficult job. Also viewers like websites with images. SEO Company believes that nicely placed and optimized images for a website are important for its increased visibility.
    image optimisation

Image optimisation is a part of SEO services and helps the images on your website to rank higher in the image searches. If the image ranks higher there are possibilities that the overall rank of your website will also increase. Though image optimisation is different than keyword optimisation it can give you great results if done rightly.

How to use images for your website? The first step is to select a clear relevant image. Scary, porno or blur images should not be selected. Though these images might attract visitors it will be in ill faith and the visitors will feel cheated. The size of the image should neither be too small or too large. It is advisable to keep the image size medium so that it fit in any frame and content. The advanced versions of the internet browsers take very less time to load high resolution images hence loading time should not be constraint in image selection.

Once you have the best image suitable to both you and your user next comes naming of the image. The name of the image should be relevant to the content it represents and have keywords as much as possible. For example if the image is of sunset and you have chosen it to indicate the downfall of Mughal empire then it should be named mughal-empire-downfall.  In other words let the image tell what it is. Last note never ever forget to fill in the alt attribute. This will help the search engines as well the visually challenged. It will also be helpful in cases where it might take longer for the image to load.

These few facts about image optimisation will definitely help you rank your website higher.

In simple words this query can be answered as, the exact length of your webpage or blog post depends on how much you have to convey through your webpage or blog as well as purpose of the page or blog. It is possible to have a long or short page as per your requirement. There are many websites which have long pages but little content and more of images. Still they are able to rank first.

    content length SEO

Content is the ruler of search engine optimisation. An effort to keep it simple, easy to understand and informative should be made. SEO company feel that ideally a 200-300 words long page should be enough. However if you have something more to say which will need more words to express then you can definitely extend the page.

Also a long page has more scope to implement SEO which will give you a better ranking. It will give you an opportunity to add other features like dividing the content into different paragraphs which can again be given sub headings consisting of the main keywords. Then in other part of the writing you can use bullets to highlight the points. Bullets are very much liked by search engines and will also facilitate better understanding for the readers. Few relevant inbound links containing the main keywords can also be used in longer text.

While a longer page has many benefits for you it is necessary to make sure you actually have something important on your page for the visitor. Just don’t make long pages for the purpose of SEO but make sure that the page will be helpful to your ultimate customer who will make your site Rock. If your site content is really good and has something important for your customers then you will definitely have repeat customers which will ultimately lead to increase in traffic. More satisfied customer means more traffic.

Believe it or not Alt Tags, <h> Tags, and Attributes can immensely enhance the search engine optimisation campaign for a website. Unfortunately most of the webmasters overlook these and do not use them to the benefit of the site. These can be referred to as one of the on page optimization techniques relating to the presentation and accessibility of the webpage content. They make the website easy to understand and navigate as well as help the search engines to know the key phrases and terms.

    simple tag seo

Most of the SEO consultant and web designers will agree that a website designed without images looks incomplete. Images make the website interactive. But then what about the search engines which do not have eyes to see and understand the message of the image. ALT Tag comes as a best solution for them. The alt tag should be a short description of the image enabling everybody to understand its relation to the text.

    Alt tag can look like
    <img src=”www.seoservices.com/seo articles” alt=”importance of SEO”>

Headings draw visitor’s attention and hence are required to be highlighted. <b> tags, and <font size= > are usually used for this purpose, but it is recommended to use a heading tag instead. The heading tag that is <h> has five different types like <h1>,<h2>,<h3>,<h4> and <h5>. Out of these <h1> and <h2> can be used for major title while the remaining three <h3>,<h4> and <h5> for the subtitles. Search engines value these tags more than <b> or <font size= > tag as they give the gist of the content on the page. This helps search engines in indexing the page easily and quickly.

The text to speech software reads the title attribute loud so that the visually impaired can understand and get a hint about the content of the page the link will take to. If your site relates to batteries then let them say so. It will also help the search engines judge the content on your page.
