Camera manufacturer Nikon made outrageous announcement of
a video headset, the Media Port UP300 and UP300x wearable PC territory. The device,
completely appear like a pair of headphones with a small display unit clamped
on. The 300x model is a cute and exciting spec sheet featuring 8GB of flash
memory for videos, audio and file storage, Wi-Fi connectivity, a full-featured
internet browser and even motion control. Although Browsing could be
frustrating on this setup however, you can download audio and video content
directly to the device using Wi-Fi connectivity.
The UP300 fetches more attention by exceeding the hardware
capability of simple video goggles from Zeiss and Myvu but lacking full-fledged
PC glasses. Some more applications can be added outside of the consumer space,
like as audio/video tour guide replacements. As for now the video headphone
will be available in Japan
only.
